Here is the latest update on the Honey Project at Norris Dam State Park

By Ranger Trent on 8/20/20

We are still partnering with Will and Debbie Grinder (local beekeepers from Norris) and they are are offering a lot of help and guidance with all aspects of managing the hives. The honey has been a great seller in our gift shop, with close to $1000 raised in just the 4 short months that we have been selling it. We also now are offering t-shirts (see below)  that can be purchased to help support the honey project as well. We recently harvested honey again a few weeks ago from the 6 hives that we manage and were able to draw around ten gallons of honey. As of last week we also were able to catch a swarm from someones house locally which we then took back to the park to establish another hive. The Honey Project has already shown great success and we hope that the program will continue to grow, and in the future we hope to be able to offer public programs to promote and demonstrate what goes into beekeeping in a “hand-on” program.
